‘Eco Hotels Certified’ – Certification for Businesses, Green Hotels and ecotourism resorts

The ehc eco certification puts environmentally friendly thinking, action and management in the spotlight. More ecology, more sustainability and more regional support by businesses and green hotels are now conveniently appraisable and comparable.

The ehc eco certification process is an uncomplicated way to ‘ecologise’ businesses and regions. The entire consumption of resources by applicants is calculated and assessed. The easy-to-understand traffic light principle clearly shows where a business stands with regard to ecology, and which steps should next be taken in quality management.

CO2 Footprint as the Measurement for ehc Eco Certification

The calculation of the CO2 consumption - better known as the carbon or CO2 footprint - of a business is assessed by comparing it with the consumption of similar businesses with the aid of an anonymous ‘benchmark system’. The aim: to clearly define the ecological credentials of a business, to illustrate room for improvement and to optimise the sustainable consumption of resources.

The pinnacle of eco: the ehc traffic light system

Any business with emissions of 40 kilograms of CO2 per bed/night or more will be rated ‘red’. The business will be labelled as an ehc-business in the process of changing to organic management and will be granted one year to decrease its CO2 emissions to below 40 kilograms of CO2 per bed/night and get into the ‘orange’ sector. The next step: a 2.5 percent decrease in CO2 emissions every year, or 10 percent in four years. Once its CO2 footprint is below 10 kilograms of CO2 per bed/night the business will have reached its goal: to be in the excellent ‘green’ sector.

The ehc eco certification is not just available for hotels - the principle applies to all businesses worldwide. Decrease your CO2 footprint! Contact the ehc team to send a no-obligation enquiry right away.
